                        Discovering Diverse Talent
The Moreau Center for the Arts has been a home for the performing and visual arts for over 50 years. Offering a selection of live theatre, concerts, recitals, and lectures each year, Moreau has brought a variety of artists to campus through the Shaheen/Duggan Performing Arts Series, including Duke Ellington, The Royal Shakespeare Company, Maria von Trapp, George Winston, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. The Shaheen/Duggan Performing Arts Series was endowed to Saint Mary’s in 1987 as a way for students to meet and learn from rising talent. The endowed series continues to bring talent to campus each year for students and the Saint Mary’s community alike.

                        Building Opportunity for Pre-College Girls
Over the decades, more than 20,000 girls have participated in SMC summer youth programs. We have great momentum, writes President Conboy in her October letter to the community. Thanks to a $1 million grant from Lilly Endowment, Saint Mary's can now extend their reach, remove barriers to access for under-resourced and first-generation students, and to leverage community partnerships that add value to Saint Mary’s and to the program experience.

A Note From the Cloakroom: In the Wings
Saint Mary’s College is constantly making improvements to the buildings and grounds of campus. Among these improvements, the College recently purchased new “soft goods” for the Little Theatre stage at the Moreau Center for the Arts. This included borders (the horizontal curtains near the top of the performance space, legs (the tall vertical side drapes), a cyclorama (white backdrop at the rear of the stage) and a mid stage traveler (a black curtain that can be pulled to divide the stage).

                        Rowing Through the Years
As we plan our celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX this fall, we recognize the Saint Mary’s women who paved the way for future Belles. SMC alumna Ann Deighan Buckley ’78 and Notre Dame alumna Mary Brady Bustin ’78 were rowers, forever joined due to their place in history. In a letter, hey describe the vital role Saint Mary’s women played in the development of the Notre Dame Women’s Crew team.

37 Words That Opened Opportunities for Women
Our fall sports are well underway, and President Conboy is reflecting on the history of women in sports and the impact of Title IX. In her monthly letter to the community, Katie writes, “...at Saint Mary’s, our entire purpose—from our founding in 1844—has been to provide access and opportunity for women.”
