January 1, 2011 'Toys' Exhibit to Display Handcrafted Toys (The Observer) The lobby of the Cushwa-Leighton Library at Saint Mary's College will soon look a bit like Santa’s workshop. The handcrafted wooden toy collection of South Bend toymaker George Efta will be on display from December 6 through January 31. The exhibit is simply called “Toys”. Efta is married to Saint Mary’s College President Carol Ann Mooney. January 1, 2011 Lumen Christi Award Recipient Announced At this afternoon’s Commencement, a member of Saint Mary’s senior class was presented with the College’s highest award. Jingqiu Guan of Chengdu, China received the Lumen Christi Award, which is presented to the senior who stands out in the College community as an outstanding Christian woman. The recipient of the award is traditionally someone who has excelled in leadership and loyalty to Saint Mary's and whose presence has had a profound effect on the College community. Jingjing, as she is called, majored in economics and French and earned minors in math and dance. The name of the recipient is not revealed until the recipient’s name is read at the ceremony. Weaver, known for starring roles in films like Aliens, Gorillas in the Mist and Avatar will conduct a master class with Saint Mary’s College theatre students in the morning and hold a public lecture that evening.
