Dorothy Feigl

She worked with students to present the school in a much better light. She built relationships with alumnae, parents and students.

Her Story

I met Professor Feigl in her office at the end of my sophomore year.  At the time she was vice-president of academic affairs and dean of faculty. I was helping finish the yearbook. She sat down with me told me a story about the geese of Saint Mary's. I remember her mentioning them my freshman year, but it had more meaning to me this time.  She talked to me about how she wanted a yearbook worthy of sitting on the coffee table in her office in Le Mans Hall. The following year she sat me down and reminded me again; always with a smile and a contagious laugh. I remember the day my junior year that the yearbooks were delivered. I grabbed hers and practically ran to her office to deliver it.  Her assistant welcomed me in, and I sat on her couch as she went page by page through the book.  The smile on her face and then the comment of "You have done a great job... now do it again."

I was unable to deliver her copy of the Blue Mantle after my senior year but I was amazed that the day after my copy was shipped to my parents house, a fabulous letter, which I still treasure, arrived from her.  Her eloquent words of praise for another year book that showed the Saint Mary's tradition and spirit sat on her coffee table in her office.

Dorothy continues to inspire students as a beloved member of the faculty in the chemistry department. An appointment she has held since the fall of 1966. Hopefully, she is still telling the funny stories about the Saint Mary's geese and pushing every SMC student to learn more, be more, and grow.
