Her Story

She founded St. Agnes School in 1875 in Japan.  She resigned from the school in 1881 to return to the United States and care for her aging mother. St. Agnes School continued to educate women. In the 1990s, the school celebrated 120 years. As part of the celebration, Saint Agnes students came to Saint Mary's to see where their Founder Ellen Eddy attended school. In 2000 the school received its official charter as an accredited four year university and is now known as St. Agnes University.
