Specialized Professional Association (SPA) Recognition

Seeking national recognition for each of its programs, the Saint Mary's College Education Department submitted a newly designed assessment system built to meet the individual standards of Specialized Professional Associations (i.e., Association for Childhood Education International, Council for Exceptional Children, National Council for Teachers of Mathematics, National Council for Teachers of English) for critical review. While the typical rate for initial approval across the nation is around 75%, seven of eight programs in the Education Department are nationally recognized.

With the feedback gained from the review process, the department will continue to improve the programs to meet the rigorous standards of these Specialized Professional Associations in our efforts to prepare the highest quality teachers. Seeking national recognition is a major step in continuing national accreditation with CAEP (formerly NCATE).
