a.     The Saint Mary’s College Education Department continually submits to national and state organizations to get appropriate recognition for each of the programs that lead to licensure. National specialized professional associations that have recognized the department’s programs include the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, Council of Exceptional Children, the National Council for Teachers of Mathematics, and the National Council for Teachers of English, National Council for the Social Studies. Currently, all programs that are eligible for national review are recognized. The remaining programs, Elementary Education, Secondary Science, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, are no longer reviewed by national organizations but are fully recognized by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). Thus, all of Saint Mary's education programs are recognized to the fullest extent possible.

With the feedback gained from the review process, the department continues to improve the programs to meet the rigorous standards of these Specialized Professional Associations in our efforts to prepare the highest quality teachers. Seeking national recognition is a major step in continuing national accreditation with CAEP.
