Broaden your perspective

With a rigorous course load it can be difficult for nursing students to study abroad. At Saint Mary’s, we make it possible for you to venture abroad during the fall semester of your sophomore year. Or utilize your nursing skills in Uganda with the Sisters of the Holy Cross. We know that study abroad is important in gaining independence and fostering a sense of self, which leads to stronger women and better nurses.

Summer Program in Uganda

Nursing students have the unique opportunity to spend four weeks in Kyarusozi, Uganda during the summer. Students will expand their perspectives, develop their faith, and put education to use at the Holy Cross Health Center in Kyembogo.

Applying what they’ve learned in their classes and clinicals, students provide both outpatient care and inpatient care, as well as lab tests. They treat malaria and even help deliver babies. They travel outside of the clinic to local villages to provide immunizations and teach nutrition and hygiene, as well.

Along with hands-on training in the clinic, students also have a rich cultural experience exploring Uganda, visiting the city of Jinja, rafting on the Nile, and exploring Queen Elizabeth National Park.
