About Michelle
Hi! My name is Michelle Mehelas. I am a Saint Mary’s College Admission Counselor and a proud 2019 alum. I was born and raised in Holland, Ohio adjacent to Toledo. The first time I visited Saint Mary’s College was during my high school spring break when my parents and I drove from Chicago to Saint Mary’s. The campus was quiet and beautiful, especially The Avenue and Le Mans Hall. I could picture myself here. I met two tennis players on the tennis court who highly encouraged me to apply. Later that autumn, I went on an official campus tour and interviewed which reignited my interest. I came to Saint Mary’s with an undecided major and took a variety of courses my first semester. My art professor saw potential in me and asked me to consider becoming an Art major. Ultimately, I graduated with a double major in Art History and Studio Art with a concentration in New Media, which is photography and film.
When I was a college student, I was involved in Campus Ministry by being an Eucharistic minister and greeter at mass, Circle K (collegiate volunteer organization) engaged in fun activities such as making cookies for children at the Ronald McDonald House. On the creative side, I was the Artistic Editor and Editorial Board Member of Chimes: The Literary and Art Journal of Saint Mary’s College. To become a part of the tri-campus community, I worked as a photographer for The Observer, the University of Notre Dame, Saint Mary’s College, and Holy Cross College’s newspaper, covering sporting and academic events on the college campuses. I had the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles, California and Spokane, Washington to photograph Notre Dame football and women’s basketball.

Exercising, especially interval training of walking and sprinting on campus as well as utilizing the new, state of the art Angela Athletic & Wellness Complex.

Capri, Italy
Your favorite sports teams:
The Fighting Irish football team, the Detriot Lions, and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Your favorite thing about South Bend:
The local eateries and shops. The South Bend Farmer’s Market is a great place to meet friends and support small business owners.
Your favorite thing about Saint Mary's:
The strong sense of community. Since returning to campus after my graduation in 2019, Saint Mary’s again feels like a second home. There is incredible support from faculty and staff that students experience here.
