Saint Mary’s College is proud to welcome back to campus infectious disease expert Mary Anne Luzar ’72, PhD for another health-related speaking engagement, this time on Ebola. Luzar is chief of the Regulatory Affairs Branch, Division of AIDS, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health (NIH). News media is not permitted to cover the lecture so that Luzar may speak freely about her work at the NIH. The opinions presented at the seminar will be hers and should not be taken as official commentary from the NIH.

Board of Trustees Announces the Extension of President Carol Ann Moone...
The Saint Mary’s College Board of Trustees has extended the contract of President Carol Ann Mooney to May 2016, with the possibility of further extension. Board Chair Mary L. Burke ’85 made the announcement today via an email to students, faculty, staff, and advisory councils. The original contract was set to expire in May 2014. Mooney recently signed the new contract. The news comes on the eve of the 8th anniversary of Mooney’s inauguration, which took place on January 15, 2005.

Young Catholic Women Invited to Write Pope Francis
A group of students active in Campus Ministry at Saint Mary’s College are rising to meet a challenge facing the Catholic Church: a significant drop in young women practicing the faith. Students at this Catholic, women’s college are organizing a letter-writing response to Pope Francis’ outreach to youth called “Voices of Young Catholic Women.” They’re inviting Catholic women of the Millennial Generation (born between 1981-1995) to write the pope about their love for the Catholic tradition and ideas for how the Church might better reach their demographic.

“Everybody’s Hero: The Jackie Robinson Story” Coming Feb. 17
The Saint Mary’s College Office of Special Events is proud to present the Mad River Theater Works production of Everybody’s Hero: The Jackie Robinson Story. The musical, which is part of this year’s Shaheen/Duggan Performing Arts Series, will be presented on Monday, Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in O’Laughlin Auditorium.

"Madeleva: A Play in Several Voices"
Madeleva: A Play in Several Voices will be performed on Thursday, March 20, 7 p.m., in O’Laughlin Auditorium. The work commemorates the life of former Saint Mary’s College president, Sister M. Madeleva Wolff, CSC. Sister Madeleva was a visionary, an educator, a medieval scholar, a poet, and a woman of deep spiritual conviction. In her 27 years as president (1934-1961), she put those gifts to good use leading Saint Mary’s to national prominence as a premier Catholic liberal arts college. 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of her death.
