Ann Korb ’54 Receives 2014 Distinguished Alumna Award The Distinguished Alumna Award, awarded annually by the Alumnae Association of Saint Mary’s College of Notre Dame, IN, honors a woman who exemplifies the standards, ideals, and mission of this Catholic liberal arts women’s college and who has given outstanding service through ongoing work for the Alumnae Association. The award is the association’s highest recognition. This year’s recipient is Ann Korb ’54, of South Bend, who exemplifies the standards, ideals, and mission of the College through leadership positions in her professional and personal life. The Center for Spirituality (CFS) at Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce its 2014 Spring Lecture Series, The Life Leadership of Women Religious. The annual series is complemented this year by a play commemorating the life of former Saint Mary’s College president, Sister M. Madeleva Wolff, CSC. Sister Madeleva was a visionary, an educator, a medieval scholar, a poet, and a woman of deep spiritual conviction. 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of her death. Panel Discussion: Justice in a Material World This is the first in a semester-long series about materialism, justice, fashion, and sustainability. This panel discussion is about thrift store shopping as a means of pursuing social justice. The event is open to the public. Tami Tango Trio to Teach about Argentine Music and Dance during Reside... The Tami Tango Trio, an internationally acclaimed Argentine music and dance ensemble, will be at Saint Mary’s College for a two-day residency Monday-Tuesday, October 13-14. The trio, which features traditional Argentine tango and folk music, will offer three events open to students and the public. Graduate Recognized with Lumen Christi Award, Highest Student Honor Galicia Guerrero ’14 of Jenison, Michigan was honored with the Lumen Christi Award at Saint Mary’s Commencement on Saturday, May 17. The Lumen Christi is the highest student honor at Saint Mary’s College. It is awarded to the senior who stands out as an outstanding Christian woman. The recipient is traditionally someone who has excelled in leadership and loyalty to Saint Mary’s and whose presence has had a profound effect on the College community. 2014 Alumnae Association Award Recipients Announced Saint Mary’s College is pleased to announce the recipients of the annual awards given by the Alumnae Association of Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, IN. The New York Times lists Saint Mary's College among the top 10 Most Economically Diverse Top Colleges in the nation. We come in at #8! As Saint Mary's College President Carol Ann Mooney says, “We do not want any student to be unable to attend Saint Mary’s because she lacks the financial means to do so…As part of our Catholic mission to reach out to those with the greatest need, we must find ways to allow these students to pursue a Saint Mary’s education.” More than $23 million has been raised for scholarships during the College's ongoing "Faith Always, Action Now" campaign. The Girl Scouts release a study every year on the well being of girls across the country. Indiana didn't do very well, ranking 36 of 50. The findings for Indiana were similar to those revealed by the Status of Girls in Indiana (SGI) report released by Saint Mary's College last fall. Two professors, Marne Austin and Kristin Kuter, working on the next SGI report were interviewed by Fox 28 about challenges that Hoosier girls face.
