Two Faculty Receive Awards from College (South Bend Tribune) Saint Mary's College recognized two Saint Mary's faculty members with prestigious awards this spring. Julie Storme, a professor of modern languages and interim associate dean of faculty, received the Spes Unica Award for her eminent service to the college in teaching, scholarship, creative activity and service. Religious studies professor Phyllis Kaminski received the Maria Pieta Award, which recognizes the quality of teaching in courses for first-year students and sophomores. The award is in honor of Sister Maria Pieta, a Saint Mary’s teacher and administrator. “Symposium on Domestic Violence and Intersectionality,” a Justice ... That’s according to the 2010 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey. The Justice Education program at Saint Mary's College is interested in openly discussing why this occurs and why a partner may not leave an abusive relationship. The Department of Integrated Marketing Communications has a social media campaign for alumnae underway called "Belles Ring Around the World." To alumnae, their Saint Mary's ring symbolizes a sisterhood, exceptional education, and adventures since graduation. The campaign asks alumnae, where are you and your ring now? Students Spruce up House for Rebuilding Together (Fox 28) On Saturday, Saint Mary's College students participated in Rebuilding Together, a community-driven effort to rehabilitate homes in South Bend. This year is the ninth consecutive year the College has been involved in the program. Around 50 Saint Mary’s volunteers painted, cleaned, raked, and planted at a home sponsored by the College. Students “Stand Up To Cancer” with a Community Dinner The Saint Mary’s College student club SMC Stands Up To Cancer will host its 3rd annual “Don’t Stop Believin’ Celebration of Life” event on Saturday, March 1. The party is open to the public and intended for cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and family members. Reservations are required. Saint Mary’s Announces 2014 Commencement News Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce details of its 167th Commencement, which will take place at noon on Saturday, May 17 on Le Mans Green in front of the iconic Le Mans Hall. There are 273 members of the Class of 2014. The valedictorian for the Class of 2014 is Brianne Michaels, a computational mathematics major from Valparaiso, Ind. The 2014 Commencement speaker is Judith Mayotte, a humanitarian, professor, author, and Emmy Award-winning television producer. Saint Mary’s Position in U.S. News Rankings Remains in the Top 100 Saint Mary's College remains in the top 100 of the highest ranked colleges in the U.S. News & World Report’s Best National Liberal Arts Colleges list. The College has been in the top 100 for six years running, this year coming in at 96 out of country’s 249 liberal arts colleges. “I am very pleased that Saint Mary’s College continues to rank among the top 100 Best National Liberal Arts Colleges,” said Saint Mary's College President Carol Ann Mooney. Lessons and Carols to Fill Church of Our Lady of Loretto The annual Lessons and Carols will take place on campus at the Church of Our Lady of Loretto on Sunday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend this ecumenical event, which commemorates the birth of Christ.
