Liz Palmer '13 Recognized at Commencement with Lumen Christi Award At Commencement on Saturday, May 18, a member of the Class of 2013 was presented with the Lumen Christi Award, the highest student honor at Saint Mary’s College. Elizabeth “Liz” Palmer received the recognition, which is awarded to the senior who stands out in the College community as an outstanding Christian woman. The recipient of the award is traditionally someone who has excelled in leadership and loyalty to Saint Mary’s and whose presence has had a profound effect on the College community. The name of the recipient is not revealed until her name is read at Commencement. Saint Mary's Education Program at Work in Elkhart Schools (MNC Radio) Saint Mary's College and Elkhart Community Schools (ECS) have formed a partnership to create a dynamic and sustained Laboratory School Network for the next three summers. The mission of the Laboratory School Network is to support learning for ECS students and the professional development for pre-service teachers from Saint Mary’s. Two ECS teachers, who are Saint Mary’s education alumnae, serve as the mentor teachers. Ten rising seniors in the education program or recent alumnae serve as teachers in the lab. Motivational Talk for Businesswomen on “The Magic Behind Our Dreams�... The Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI) at Saint Mary’s College and KeyBank’s Key4Women® will host a free motivational talk for local businesswomen titled “The Magic Behind Our Dreams: Using the Power Within to Effect Positive Change in the World.” The event will be held from 8-9:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11 in Room 145 of Spes Unica Hall on the Saint Mary’s College campus. Saint Mary’s College was proud to have had social entrepreneur Kyle Zimmer, president and CEO of First Book, as the 2013 Commencement Speaker at its 166th Commencement held on Saturday, May 18. Zimmer received an honorary doctor of humanities degree from the College at the ceremony. She addressed the Class of 2013, made up of 374 women from 33 states and one other country (Korea), with advice as they embark on their life’s work.
