Dance Marathon for Riley Hospital is Saturday (South Bend Tribune) It takes heart to make a difference, and heart is behind Dance Marathon at Saint Mary’s College. The annual student-led event raises funds for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, where sick children from around the state find care. Since Saint Mary’s students brought Dance Marathon to the school in 2006, they have raised more than $460,000 for Riley Hospital. Rhoades, Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, is the speaker for the 15th Annual Symposium on St. Thomas Aquinas. The talk, which is open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 26 in the Student Center Lounge. The Bishop's lecture is titled “The Contemplation of Truth by Faith and Reason: St. Thomas Aquinas, Blessed John Paul II, and Pope Benedict XVI”. Professor on Mastering Money Management (Sassy Magazine) Susan Vance, professor emerita of business law and accounting, was interviewed by Saint Mary's alumna Jennifer Warfel Juszkiewicz '06 for an article on women and money management. The story appears in the July issue of Sassy, a locally published women's magazine. Vance taught a very popular elective course on financial literacy at the College and shares some of her best advice to women in this article. Students Enjoy "Sweet" Finish in Math Competition Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that a team of mathematics students finished in the top 15 percent of the nearly 7,000 teams that competed in the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP) international competition called Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM). Samantha Brady ’13 of South Bend and Olivia McIntee ’13 of Sylvania, Ohio made up the team that was named among the Meritorious Winners. They solved the eternal question: How can you produce brownies without burnt edges? Their solution: a hexagonal pan. Students Get Some R&R During Finals Week (WNDU-TV) A stress relief event during finals week used furry friends to redefine "R and R."Rabbits and Relaxation is the idea behind the study break for Saint Mary’s students held Monday morning. The event allowed them to hold, pet, and play with rabbits as a stress reliever as they prepare for exams. Student and rabbit breeder Mara Scott '13 organized the event, as she has at the end of nearly every semester she's attended Saint Mary's.
