6th Annual Dance Marathon for Riley Coming up
Hundreds of Saint Mary’s College students and others are expected to lace up their dancing shoes for the sixth annual Saint Mary’s College Dance Marathon this Saturday. The 12-hour event will kick off at 12 p.m. (noon) this Saturday in the Angela Athletic Facility and conclude at midnight. Dance Marathon Vice President Meaghan Curliss '11 was interviewed on WNDU-TV's morning show about it. Dance Marathon President Katie Fadden was interviewed on WSBT-TV's morning show.

Saint Mary's Science Programs Featured on TV
WNIT's Economic Outlook program focuses on how educating women in science-related fields could help the country become more competitive on the world stage. The panel features two Saint Mary's College science faculty, a dual degree (chemistry/engineering) alumna, and a biology major.

Author Mary Gordon to give Christian Culture Lecture
The Department of Humanistic Studies at Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce that nationally acclaimed writer Mary Gordon will deliver the annual Christian Culture Lecture on Tuesday, September 13 at 7:30 p.m. in O’Laughlin Auditorium. The best-selling author may be best known for her books Final Payments, Pearl, The Shadow Man, Circling My Mother, Reading Jesus, and most recently, The Love of My Youth. In her lecture, “The Uses and Limits of Outrage: A Meditation on the Work of Francisco Goya, Czeslaw Milosz and Denise Levertov”, Gordon will explore how artists and poets respond to the political catastrophes of tyranny and war.

Nursing Students to Host Christmas Party for Families in Pediatric Res...
The Saint Mary’s College Student Nursing Association (SNA) will host a Pediatric Respite Christmas Party for families that student nurses work with through the nursing department’s Pediatric Respite Program. It’s a program in which nursing students provide care to children with special needs, giving family caregivers a break.

Saint Mary’s College to Host 9/11 Event “We Remember”
Saint Mary’s College will host a performing arts event by faculty called “We Remember”, a commemoration in music, dance and poetry on the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The event will take place in Little Theatre at 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 11. Admission is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

Trot for Tots raises money for Dance Marathon (various media)
The annual Trot for Tots 5K, a fundraiser for Dance Marathon, which raises money for Riley Hospital, took place on September 28. Dance Marathon student organizers hit the local morning news programs encouraging the public to take part. Two students, Rebecca Guerin ’12, president of Dance Marathon, and Casey Palmer ’12, whose siblings were treated at Riley's, were on WNDU-TV. Rebecca and Maureen Parsons ‘13 appeared on Fox 28. The Observer, covered the event, interviewing Kate Kellogg ’13 and Liz Kraig ’13, who were in charge of Trot for Tots.

According to the article, the face of hunger in America is changing. It’s a little more ex-middle class, a little more desperate and there are a lot more mouths to feed, people who run the nation's food banks say. “The emptying of food banks is another indicator of the depth of the recession and its long term impacts,” says economics professor Jerry McElroy.

Students to Sponsor Breast Cancer Awareness Run/Walk
On Sunday, October 9, the Healthy Mind, Healthy Body Club at Saint Mary's College will host its inaugural Belles for Boobies 5K walk/run to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, an organization dedicated to research and support for breast cancer.
