Belles Picked Fourth in Pre-Season Poll
ROYAL OAK, Mich. – Women's soccer coaches in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association have chosen defending champion Calvin as the preseason favorite for the 2013 season while Saint Mary's was tabbed fourth.

For 11th year, Saint Mary’s among “Best in the Midwest”
The Princeton Review once again lists Saint Mary’s College among the best colleges and universities in the Midwest. The education services company widely known for its test preparation programs and college and graduate school guides selected the school as one of 155 institutions listed in the “Best in the Midwest” section of its website feature “2014 Best Colleges: Region by Region,” posted this week.

"Radium Girls," Play about Factory Workers Exposed to Toxin, Nov. 7-10
The Saint Mary’s College Theatre Program is proud to announce Radium Girls as the 2013 fall production. Radium Girls, a play set in New Jersey the 1920s, is based on the true story of young factory workers who begin a campaign for justice after being sickened by radium-laced paint on the job. It is a fast-moving theatrical ensemble piece about greed, wealth, the environment, science, and courage.

Saint Mary's Excels in International Math Competition (The Observer)
Math students from Saint Mary’s College competed in the 2013 international competition known as the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) hosted by the Consortium for Mathematics and its Applications (COMAP). In the competition of nearly 7,000 teams, Samantha Brady '13 and Olivia McIntee '13 placed in the top 15th percentile and earned a position among the Meritorious Winners. The two students were one of three teams sent by Saint Mary’s, marking the first time in the College’s history where more than two teams competed.

Apollo Style Talent Showcase to Present Saint Mary’s and IUSB Talent
In celebration of African American Heritage Month, the Saint Mary’s College student club Sisters of Nefertiti and the IU South Bend Black Student Union will host the “Apollo Style Talent Showcase” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at Saint Mary’s in Carroll Auditorium, Madeleva Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Getting to Know Valedictorian Allison Sherman '13 (The Observer)
Saint Mary's College announced the valedictorian for the Class of 2013 is Allison Sherman of Batavia, Illinois. Sherman, a computational mathematics major, said she was drawn to Saint Mary’s because of the professors’ commitment to teaching and the College’s small class sizes. “There is a strong sense of community and the personal attention that each student receives was very important in my final decision to attend Saint Mary’s,” Sherman said.

Thanksgiving as Day of Gratitude, not Black Friday Greed (WSBT Radio)
With the direction retailers are taking, Thanksgiving seems to be becoming "Black Friday Eve" with more and more stores opening on Thanksgiving night. Instead of stopping to consider what we have and being grateful for it, consumers may be thinking about what they don't have and want to get. Adrienne Lyles-Chockley, visiting philosophy professor who heads the justice education program, is interviewed by WSBT Radio.

Minority/Women Business Enterprises Certification Workshop Planned
The Saint Mary’s College’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI), the City of South Bend’s Diversity Utilization Board and the Indiana Department of Administration’s (IDOA) Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises (MWBE) Division are proud to co-host an informational workshop for minority and/or women-owned businesses interested in achieving certification as Minority or Women Business Enterprises (MBE/WBE). The event, called “Let’s Talk Certification,” will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesday, March 13 in the Student Center at Saint Mary’s College.
