Study Finds "It's Hard Being A Girl in Indiana" (Indianapolis Star) Girls have it rough in Indiana, compared to boys here and their peers in other states, a new report released this morning concludes. The Status of Girls in Indiana, prepared by Saint Mary’s College, is thought to be the first-ever look at the health and well-being of Hoosier girls. And in many areas, girls lag. “It is my hope that our faculty and students may have sown the seeds for improvement in the lives of girls in Indiana,” said Carol Mooney, president of Saint Mary’s, a Catholic all-women’s school, at a news conference in Indianapolis unveiling the report. Bridging Cultures Through Community Service (South Bend Tribune) For the second summer in a row, Saint Mary's College has connected the global community with South Bend’s local needs in a unique way. Belles Honored for Academic Achievement NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Saint Mary's cross country team was one of 197 NCAA Division III colleges and universities to be recognized by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as an All-Academic Team. Sister Maria Concepta McDermott, CSC Award for Service in Education Elizabeth Litke ’13 has taught in a variety of settings, volunteering her expertise as an educator in diverse classrooms in the local area and beyond. In addition to her successful field study experience at several public and Catholic schools in the area, she has tutored third and fourth graders in the College Academy of Tutoring for three years. Halloween Magic Show to Demonstrate Science is a Treat It’s no trick. Learning about science is a treat! Saint Mary’s College chemistry students, dressed as mad scientists, will host a Halloween Magic Show for South Bend-area children on campus at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 30. The public is invited to attend and children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. Kids will get to do some hands-on experiments and then watch the college students conduct some on stage. The evening will end with kids making ice cream with the help of liquid nitrogen.
