Hightower is board chairperson for the USA Track & Field Association and president and CEO of the Columbus Urban League (CUL). She will deliver a presentation entitled “Developing Your Lifelong Brand” in which she will discuss discerning her career path. The event will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 1 in Vander Vennet Theatre in the Student Center. Saint Mary’s College Sponsors House for Rebuilding Together On Saturday, April 13, an estimated 75 Saint Mary's College students will roll up their sleeves to participate in Rebuilding Together, a community-driven effort to rehabilitate homes in South Bend. Students will complete basic household tasks, such as painting, cleaning and planting at a Saint Mary’s sponsored home. It is through service events, like Rebuilding Together, that students have the opportunity to connect with those in the community in very real and tangible ways. Eighty percent of students participate in service before graduating. Three Saint Mary’s College students share what it was like to be studying with the school’s Rome Program when Pope Francis was elected as the new leader of the Catholic Church. “We were standing in the crowd after the white smoke had emerged from the chimney. Hundreds of thousands of people were sharing the same experience there, feeling everything you were feeling. Saint Mary’s College Applies for Second Patent in School's History Saint Mary’s College is proud to announce it has filed for its second patent in the College’s 169-year history. The first patent was filed last summer. Both patents are pending and will protect paper analytical device (PAD) tools developed by chemistry professor Toni Barstis, PhD, and a team of undergraduate chemistry students at this Catholic, liberal arts college. Saint Mary's College Receives $6.2 Million Gift* Saint Mary's College gratefully announces a gift of $4.7 million (UPDATE: The bequest was $6.2 million, when estate was settled.) from the trust of Marjorie A. Neuhoff ’61 . It is the largest bequest in the 167-year history of this Catholic, women’s college. The gift will be used to establish endowments for a chair in nursing, a need-based scholarship, and the Summer Science Research Communities, all in Ms. Neuhoff’s name. The news comes on the heels of the March 26 announcement of the largest single private gift ever to the College—$9 million from philanthropists MaryAnn and Clayton Mathile, parents of alumna Jennifer Mathile Prikkel ’95. That gift, matched by a $1 million gift from Mrs. Prikkel, will fund an extensive renovation of Science Hall.
