Lumen Christi Award Recipient Announced
At this afternoon’s Commencement, a member of Saint Mary’s senior class was presented with the College’s highest award. Jingqiu Guan of Chengdu, China received the Lumen Christi Award, which is presented to the senior who stands out in the College community as an outstanding Christian woman. The recipient of the award is traditionally someone who has excelled in leadership and loyalty to Saint Mary's and whose presence has had a profound effect on the College community. Jingjing, as she is called, majored in economics and French and earned minors in math and dance. The name of the recipient is not revealed until the recipient’s name is read at the ceremony.

Saint Mary's College is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2011 Alumnae Association Awards, which were distributed at the Reunion Banquet tonight as part of Reunion Weekend, June 2-5. Marketing Professor Notes Sophisticated Tactics on Cyber Monday (Fox 2...
Joyce Hicks, associate professor of marketing, was interviewed about the growing popularity of Cyber Monday. She said retailers are expanding online shopping sales by using social media to reach more consumers. If you "like" a store on Facebook, you can get special deals in your email like free shipping or bonus gifts. Hicks noted in her interview, "Businesses have changed a lot in that they're trying to get as many tentacles as they can to try and reach their consumers."

Actress Sigourney Weaver Coming to Saint Mary's
The Saint Mary’s College Theatre Program will welcome Academy Award nominated actress Sigourney Weaver to campus on Monday, September 26 as the 2011/2012 academic year’s Margaret Hill Endowed Visiting Artist. Weaver, known for starring roles in films like Aliens, Gorillas in the Mist and Avatar will conduct a master class with Saint Mary’s College theatre students in the morning and hold a public lecture that evening.

Internationalization Efforts Garner National Recognition
Saint Mary's College has much to celebrate during International Education/Modern Languages Week, which starts today. The 2011 Open Doors Report on International Educational Exchange, released this morning, ranks Saint Mary's College 7th among all U.S. baccalaureate institutions for the number of undergraduate students studying abroad for an academic year (two semesters). And that's just the beginning of the accolades.

Saint Mary’s College is pleased to announce and welcome Heather Grennan Gary as college editor in the Integrated Marketing Communications department. Among her duties is serving as the editor of Courier, the Saint Mary’s College alumnae magazine. Gary worked as an assistant, associate and contributing editor at U.S. Catholic magazine.

Business Students “Sell” Popcorn at National Competition (The Obse...
While selling gourmet popcorn may sound like an easy task to accomplish, the students of the Sales Management and Professional Selling course at Saint Mary's College learned differently in a national collegiate competition held during fall break. Robert L. Williams, Jr., assistant professor of marketing, said he wanted to gear the coursework for this semester toward real life experiences of professional selling, especially after he learned about this competition.
