About Bishop Rhoades 

Bishop RhoadesBishop Rhoades was appointed the Ninth Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne – South Bend on November 14, 2009, by Pope Benedict XVI.

Bishop Rhoades earned advanced degrees in dogmatic theology and canon law from the Gregorian University in Rome. He later served on the faculty of Mount Saint Mary's Seminary and taught courses in systematic theology and canon law. In 1997, he was named the rector of Mount Saint Mary's, a role he fulfilled until Pope John Paul II named him as Bishop of Harrisburg, PA, in 2004. He left Harrisburg upon his appointment to Fort Wayne-South Bend, and was installed as bishop of our diocese on January 13, 2010, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Fort Wayne.

About His Talk

Bishop Rhoades will examine the relationship of faith and reason in Catholic thought, focusing on the insights of Saint Thomas Aquinas as well as on the teachings of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI on this issue in the context of contemporary challenges.
