Calling all Future Doctors and Nurses
Do you have a passion for helping and caring for others? This week-long residential program is designed for high school girls interested in a career in the health sciences industry. Campers will get hands-on experience working in the College’s state-of-the-art healthcare simulation lab, as well as have the opportunity to tour South Bend’s Memorial Hospital and have a chance to learn from the MedFlight Emergency Transport team. Campers will also work with the American Red Cross to become CPR certified.
During the week, campers will work closely with Saint Mary’s students and professors as they begin their training in the health science field. Lessons and guest speakers will cover a range of topics across all areas of the industry, allowing campers to explore a variety of healthcare careers. Campers will also experience what campus life is like at Saint Mary’s College as they sleep in dorms, eat in the dining hall, and attend sessions in campus classrooms.
Throughout the week, campers will:
- Attend lectures and presentations by Saint Mary’s faculty and guest speakers
- Experience the healthcare industry hands-on while working in the College’s Center for Integrated Healthcare Education simulation lab
- Begin to develop skills that are associated with health assessments and treatment
- Take a tour of a local hospital and chat with a variety of professionals who work there
- Receive CPR certification from the American Red Cross
Upon completion of the program, participants will receive one hour of elective college credit from Saint Mary's College.
