Halloween Magic Show to Demonstrate Science is a Treat It’s no trick. Learning about science is a treat! Saint Mary’s College chemistry students, dressed as mad scientists, will host a Halloween Magic Show for South Bend-area children on campus at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, October 30. The public is invited to attend and children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. Kids will get to do some hands-on experiments and then watch the college students conduct some on stage. The evening will end with kids making ice cream with the help of liquid nitrogen. Sister Maria Concepta McDermott, CSC Award for Service in Education Elizabeth Litke ’13 has taught in a variety of settings, volunteering her expertise as an educator in diverse classrooms in the local area and beyond. In addition to her successful field study experience at several public and Catholic schools in the area, she has tutored third and fourth graders in the College Academy of Tutoring for three years. Belles Tie Flying Dutch NOTRE DAME, Ind. - After conceding an early goal, the Belles battled back to earn a 1-1 double-overtime tie against Hope on Saturday. First-year Students Move In (WNDU-TV) Thursday was "Move In" day at Saint Mary's College and even before classes start, the school is making a strong statement. The first-year class will be the largest class on campus, with 440 women, and it'll be the most diverse in the history of Saint Mary's. In addition, for the first time, the college is offering the, "four-year graduation promise." Students who follow the guidelines are guaranteed to graduate in four years or the college will pay for any additional courses a student needs toward their degree. Award-winning Writer Sarah Cortez to Speak Sarah Cortez, award-winning poet, memoirist, fiction writer, and editor, will visit Saint Mary's College for a reading and a lecture on Wednesday, April 10, both of which are free and open to the public. Rest in Peace Bishop Emeritus John D'Arcy The Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend announced the death of Bishop Emeritus John Michael D’Arcy. President Carol Ann Mooney expressed her sadness at hearing the news, "His visits to our campus were marked by his great personal warmth and love for our students. His homilies at Commencement were legendary, and after Mass he would stand and take pictures with students and their families for as long as needed. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him."
