“The Secret Garden” is Friday and Saturday (Small Fire Will Not Af...
A small fire in a storage area in the basement of Moreau Center for the Arts early Saturday morning will not affect next weekend's production of the musical “The Secret Garden.” The building is open for classes and business as usual. The musical will be performed Friday, November 9 and Saturday, November 10 in O’Laughlin Auditorium. We hope you will join us for this magical production by the theatre program.

Madrigals Coming Nov. 30-Dec. 2 (WNDU-TV)
WNDU-TV was on campus for a preview of the music department's 40th annual Madrigal Dinners. The Madrigals is a Renaissance-style Christmas season banquet and performance. Those attending can expect to see colorfully attired singers, instrumentalists, jugglers and a jester. Nancy Menk, conductor and music professor, was interviewed and members of the choir got up early to perform on live TV.

Winter Wonderland to Offer Christmas Cheer to Area Children
Saint Mary’s College students will host Winter Wonderland for children affiliated with South Bend public schools, the Center for the Homeless, and Robinson Community Center on Saturday, December 1 from 1-4 p.m. in the Student Center. Children of Saint Mary’s College faculty and staff are also invited to the Christmas party.

Schneider Named MIAA Position Player of the Week
ROYAL OAK, Mich. - Saint Mary's sophomore outside hitter Kati Schneider was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Position Player of the Week in volleyball for her performance in matches played through September 22.

Saint Catherine Medal Awarded to Third-Year Student
Saint Mary’s College President Carol Ann Mooney presented Carla Leal ’13 of Brownsville, Texas with the Saint Catherine Medal at Honors Convocation on Sunday, May 6. Each year, Saint Mary’s College awards the Saint Catherine Medal to a sophomore or junior who has demonstrated high standards of personal excellence and scholarship and has contributed to the College community in the spirit of Christian leadership.

TV Comedy Writers Hold Master Classes (The Observer)
Legendary TV comedy writers Bill Persky and Tom Leopold entertained students, faculty and staff on Wednesday evening with a discussion panel/master class. Another class is planned for this afternoon and a program this evening, "A Comedy Writer Finds God," is open to the public. It is all part of a two-day visit to the College. Persky is a five-time Emmy Award-winning writer, producer and director who has worked on such iconic television shows as “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” “Who’s the Boss,” “That Girl” and “The Cosby Show.” Leopold is famous for his writing, story editing and producing for classic television shows such as “Cheers,” “Seinfeld” and “Will and Grace.”

Christmas Shopping Season Gets a Jump Start (WIBC, Indianapolis)
It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas...but then it started to feel like it before Halloween. Santa showed up at the mall last week, two weeks before Black Friday. It's a very intentional strategy to get consumers to spend money in a still struggling economy. Richard Measell, assistant professor of economics, was interviewed by WIBC radio in Indianapolis.

Vatican II Lecture Series by Center for Spirituality
The Center for Spirituality (CFS) at Saint Mary’s College proudly announces that the Fall 2012 Fall Lecture Series will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council (also known as Vatican II). The series, titled “Roots and Wings: The Legacy of the Second Vatican Council,” will offer insights into a very significant period in the Catholic Church’s history.
