Students React to First Presidential Debate (Fox 28) The College Democrats Club hosted a Presidential Debate Watch Party on campus Wednesday night. Both Republican and Democratic students showed up at the event and offered Fox 28 what they thought about the candidates' responses to domestic issues, the focus of the first debate. The reporter commented on how well versed the Saint Mary's students are on politics. London Lamar '13, president of College Democrats, and Domini Paradiso '14, a Republican, were interviewed. South Bend Toymaker Exhibits Handmade Wooden Toys The lobby of the Cushwa-Leighton Library at Saint Mary's College will soon look a bit like Santa’s workshop. The handcrafted wooden toy collection of South Bend toymaker George Efta will be on display from December 6 through January 31. Efta is recognized as one of the nation’s foremost craftsmen of wooden toys and puzzles. A Message from the President: Sorrow at the Passing of a Student On Thursday evening, October 18, Saint Mary’s College suffered the terrible loss in our community. Ziqi Zhang of Jiangsu Province, China, a sophomore, died in a bicycle versus car accident outside the main entrance of the College. She was just 19 years old. On behalf of the entire Saint Mary's College community, I want to express our shock and deep sorrow at the passing of Ziqi. We offer heartfelt condolences to her parents and sister and our prayers are with them. Housing Options for Seniors to Include Pets in Rooms (The Observer) Next academic year, fourth-year students at Saint Mary's can bring their pets to college. That's one of the advantages to the new senior accommodations offered at Regina South. Each of the 36 rooms will be offered as a single, including rooms that were previously offered as quads or doubles. Regular-sized singles will be parceled together as a two-room suite. College to Recognize Students With Service Awards The Office for Civic and Social Engagement (OCSE) is pleased to announce that six students will receive six unique service awards on Tuesday, April 10. Five of the awards are named for Sisters of the Holy Cross. The Sisters of the Holy Cross founded the College. The sixth award is named for an alumna, Patricia Arch Green ’61, who lived a life dedicated to serving others.
