The event will take place at Saint Mary's College on Saturday, Oct. 26. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Lounge with cocktails and a champagne toast followed by dinner in the adjoining Noble Family Dining Hall. Saint Mary's Seniors Prepare for Commencement and Futures Saint Mary’s College will hold its 166th Commencement at noon on Saturday, May 18 on Le Mans Green in front of the iconic Le Mans Hall. The Class of 2013 is made up of 374 women from 33 states and one other country (Korea). The seniors are ready for their next step in life, whether that’s a job, an internship, a service opportunity, graduate school, etc. Humanistic Studies Professor Honored with Maria Pieta Award Saint Mary’s College President Carol Ann Mooney presented Laura Williamson Ambrose, assistant professor of humanistic studies, with the Maria Pieta Award at Honors Convocation on Sunday, May 5. The Maria Pieta Award was established in 1976 in honor of Sister Maria Pieta, CSC, who was a teacher and an administrator at Saint Mary’s College. The award recognizes the quality of teaching in courses for freshmen and sophomores. Junior Receives Research Fellowship in Memory of Zhang '15 (The Observ... One thing Ziqi Zhang '15 and Rachael Bridgman '14 had in common was a love of science and research. Bridgman recently received the NDnano Undergraduate Research Fellowship established in memory of Zhang, who died in the fall when she was hit by a car. “It is a true honor to be able to continue down the path that Ziqi loved, which was research,” Bridgman said. “I am happy to do this summer job in part on her behalf because this is what she would have done this summer. Nichole Clayton ’13 is the latest Saint Mary’s student to receive the Orr Fellowship, a two-year postgraduate opportunity that connects high potential professionals with dynamic, fast growing entrepreneurial companies in Indiana. Clayton, from Bay City, Michigan, is a communication studies and business administration double major, with a concentration in management. For the next two years, she will work with her Orr Fellowship host company Courseload. “Down the Avenue” To Honor Three Women for Service On Wednesday, June 19, Saint Mary’s College will host Down the Avenue, an event recognizing the service of individuals who exemplify the College’s mission to prepare women for roles of leadership and action. The dinner, typically held every other year, raises funds to establish a scholarship for students who are active volunteers in Michiana and supports the College’s Office for Civic and Social Engagement (OCSE), which facilitates local volunteer efforts.
