Why Give to the Annual Fund
Student Financial Need
The world needs women educated in the Saint Mary’s way, and they need you. Our students are tomorrow’s thinkers, teachers, and leaders. Saint Mary’s provides the academic foundation and spiritual focus they need to build a better tomorrow. And you provide the scholarships and financial aid that set it all in motion.
Did you know…
- 95% of Saint Mary’s students receive financial aid support
- 75% of students receive assistance due to financial need
- The average need of a student receiving institutional aid from Saint Mary’s College is $30,130.
- $23,214 is the average Federal loan debt of a graduating Saint Mary’s student – a $3,000 increase from 2010
The College allocated $19.1 million in financial assistance to our students in the 2011-2012 school year. This figure represents just over one-fourth of Saint Mary’s total operating budget – a considerable commitment to keeping education affordable for students and families. In addition, alumnae, parents, and friends provide financial support that helps students and families meet the costs of a college education. Saint Mary’s is grateful for this generous investment and its impact.
Annual giving helps the College attract and retain dedicated and talented faculty who are experts in their academic disciplines.
A Saint Mary’s education focuses on the intellectual, social, and spiritual development of each student. Small class sizes and individual attention from professors are hallmarks of a Saint Mary’s education. With an 11:1 student-faculty ratio, professors know their students and challenge them to test their limits, think critically, and engage in lively discussion. This, in turn, positively impacts students’ academic performance and promotes personal success.
Gifts to the Annual Fund make it possible for Saint Mary’s to offer innovative, forward-thinking programs. Guest lecturers, visiting artists, community outreach opportunities, faith small groups, plus athletic activities expand a student’s view of what is possible.
Academic programs, such as internships and study abroad programs, allow students to explore their interests and develop skills in their field of study. With more than 75 clubs and organizations, students can connect with causes they’re passionate about to gain leadership experience and get involved.
A Beautiful Campus
Annual Fund gifts enable the College to preserve the beauty of the campus that many have come to know and love. In addition, gifts provide the funding necessary to renovate or enhance existing facilities and further maintain our residence halls, classrooms, and administrative buildings. Proper care of today’s buildings will preserve the campus for future generations of Saint Mary’s women.
