Tuition Remission Programs

Saint Mary's has several remission programs for eligible students. These programs are not based on financial need, but on other eligibility factors. They are considered Awards of Circumstance per NCAA Bylaws 15.4.6.3. Specific questions about remission programs may be directed to the Financial Aid Office.

Sibling Remission
  • Who is eligible: Full-time students with another sibling enrolled full-time at Saint Mary's.
  • Amount: Ten percent (10%) remission/waiver of annual tuition; granted to the younger sibling.
  • Financial need or other requirements: None

Saint Mary's College Employee Remission
  • Who is eligible: Dependent children of eligible (as determined by the Human Resources Department) full-time Saint Mary's College staff.
  • Amount: Variable, depending on the years of service the employee has with the College; not to exceed the cost of tuition.
  • Financial need requirements: None
University of Notre Dame Employee Remission
  • Please refer to Notre Dame's website for more information.  Please contact Notre Dame's Human Resources Department if you have any questions regarding the benefit.

Other requirements: Students applying for the Saint Mary's Remission Program must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year in order to determine eligibility for federal and state grant programs. The amount of the Saint Mary's tuition benefit will be equal to the tuition less any federal or state grants.

Resident Advisor Remission
  • Who is eligible: Any upper class student may apply to be a Resident Advisor. Students are interviewed; selections are made by the Director of Residence Life.
  • Amount: Variable, depending on actual room charge incurred; equivalent to the cost of the student's room (not board).
  • Financial need or other requirements: None

Resident Advisors also receive a stipend (paid monthly on the same day other student employees are paid). For more information, please contact Residence Life.

Council of Independent Colleges Tuition Exchange Program (CIC - TEP)
  • Who is eligible: Employees, spouses, or dependent children of full-time employees at CIC-eligible institutions; three new Saint Mary's College students each year will be awarded by the Selection Committee upon review of all completed applications.
  • To receive full consideration for the tuition remission program, applicants must meet the following requirements by January 31, 2014: 1) be accepted for admission as a full-time Saint Mary's College student; 2) submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2014-15 (available after January 1, 2014); and, 3) the home institution (where the parent is employed) must submit the Tuition Exchange Program Student application to the Saint Mary's College Financial Aid Office.
  • Amount: Pays up to full time tuition (maximum of 18 credits per semester) less other restricted aid during the fall and spring semesters.  This benefit is not available to help pay for summer school.
  • Financial need requirements: None
  • Other requirements: Students must live on campus to receive this benefit. The remission will be renewed annually up to a total of eight semesters if the student maintains full-time enrollment, satisfactory progress, completes the application requirements, and her parent remains an eligible employee.
  • Award recipients will be determined soon after February 1, 2014.
  • CIC awards are granted mainly on the strength of the applicant, however, other criteria (need, etc.) may be taken into account as well.

Catholic College Cooperative Tuition Exchange (CCCTE)
  • Who is eligible: Employees, spouses, or dependent children of full-time employees at CCCTE-eligible institutions.
  • To receive full consideration for the tuition remission program, applicants must meet the following requirements by January 31, 2014: 1) have a completed application for admission on file with the Admission Office; 2) submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2014-15 (available after January 1, 2014); and, 3) the home institution (where the parent is employed) must submit the Certificate Agreement to the Saint Mary's College Financial Aid Office
  • Amount: Pays up to full-time tuition (maximum of 18 credits per semester) less other tuition restricted aid during the fall and spring semesters.  This benefit is not available to help pay for summer school.  Benefit amount will be limited to the same percentage of tuition award a student would receive at her home school.
  • Financial need requirements: None
  • Other requirements: Students must live on campus to receive this benefit. The remission will be renewed annually up to a total of eight semesters if the student maintains full-time enrollment, satisfactory progress, completes the application requirements (CCCTE Certificate Agreement), and her parent remains an eligible employee.
  • Saint Mary's will grant no more than 5 CCCTE awards over the number exported to other institutions.
  • CCCTE awards are granted mainly on the strength of the applicant, however, other criteria (need, etc.) may be taken into account as well.
  • Award recipients will be determined soon after February 1, 2014.
